Employer of the Year Lethbridge: Building a Team Culture That Lasts

Updated: Oct 8

When the Lethbridge Chamber of Commerce called to tell me that Vanquished Construction was named a finalist for Employer of the Year Lethbridge, to say I was honoured is an understatement. Honestly, I'm still processing it.

This nomination truly belongs to my team, the people who show up every day, ready to tackle the challenges that come our way.

Building a Team with Intention

When I started Vanquished Construction, I knew I wanted to build a strong foundation to support the growth I envisioned. So I started building with intention, and that clarity has really paid off. I recently attended a workshop on goal-setting, and one thing that stuck with me is that goals without plans are just wishes. Creating a workplace where people want to stay, where they feel valued and supported—that requires more than wishing for it. It requires systems, clear expectations, and a commitment to following through.

What Makes the Difference

I believe that when you take care of your team, they take care of the work. I aim to take care of my team by offering competitive wages and a comprehensive benefits package after three months. It's more than that though - sometimes it's about showing up on job sites to provide support and direction, being present when challenges arise, having honest conversations when things don't go as planned, and celebrating the wins together. It's about creating an environment where skilled professionals can do their best work and know their contributions matter.

The team assembled around me brings expertise, problem-solving skills, and dedication that make this company what it is. They catch issues before they become problems and are eager to take on any project. They represent Vanquished with the same commitment to quality that I bring to every project. That's what this nomination is really recognizing—their commitment to excellence.

The Support Behind the Scenes

I'm grateful to our clients who trust us with their projects. Every time you hire Vanquished Construction, you're giving our team the opportunity to prove what we can do. That trust is what allows us to keep building.

I also want to acknowledge the people who have helped me understand what sustainable business growth looks like: my wife and business partner, my business consultant, my Rotary Club of Lethbridge friends and colleagues. You've taught me that being a good employer requires intentionality, strong systems, and the humility to keep learning from past mistakes.

What This Recognition Means

Being named a finalist, alongside Italian Table and Southland Trailers, tells me I'm in good company in creating something that matters. We're building a workplace culture that's sustainable, a team that's committed to quality, and a business that serves our community well.

We're boldly committed to our team, our clients, and doing things the right way.
